Launched in 1994 as a private project with only personal funds, Friends grew out to a strong foundation active in Cambodia, Thailand, Laos and Indonesia. Their mission is to save lives and build children’s futures. Friends searches for children living in poverty, provides them with an education affording a direct impact and possibilities towards a job, career and independence. Over the years, friends has helped already more than 130.000 children in the different countries in which they operate.

The main objective is to promote good health among children and youth, enhance their life skills and soft skills, and increase access to social services. Friends uses sport and sports activities as a way to reach and connect with youth and children from marginalized communities. Once the connection is made, the sports activities will be supplemented by strong case management to address any social issues and ensure the sustainability of the interventions. Their Childsafe program covers a wide variety of integrated projects including child protection, education, migration, employment, and many more. The targeted areas are the slums of Bangkok, in particular Suan Oi and Klong Toei.
Together with the Friends team in Thailand we defined the scope of this project. For this project we want to finance a full time social worker who will concentrate on the sports activities in order to reach as many children possible. He/she will preferably be a sports teacher or athlete and will organize the sports activities. We aim to reach 200 children and give them access to the Childsafe program. The target is to assemble 7.250 eur to pay the annual salary of the social worker.
